Steve and Tom invited our Dutton granddaughter, Kylie, and her parents, Steve Jr. and Niki, to accompany us on a four (4) day Disney cruise to the Bahamas and Key West for Steve's 66th birthday. It was our first cruise on Disney and we were a little anxious about sharing our time at sea with over 2,000 families (meaning lots of little ones, haha) but we enjoyed every minute !!
We boarded the Disney Wonder and very quickly liked the ship's design and especially the many Disney characters that greeted us and welcomed us onboard - see photos below:
Our first stop was Disney's private island - Castaway Cay - in the Bahamas. The ship docked on January 30th (Steve's birthday) and we enjoyed the day at the beach including a BBQ lunch. Kylie and her parents were able to visit Sting Ray Cove and see these aquatic creatures up close !!
That night we celebrated Steve's birthday at - where else but at - Route 66, for cocktails followed by dinner at Triton's, the main dining room onboard the Disney Wonder. The next day we arrived at Nassau - where Kylie and her parents explored the Atlantis Resort, while Steve and Tom returned to ship for a quiet - I mean quiet - afternoon in the adult swimming pool onboard. After all, Steve is another year older...haha.
That evening we celebrated his birthday with a fireworks extravaganza - well, ok, everyone else onboard the Wonder also enjoyed this Disney exclusive experience-at-sea !!
Next we visited Key West where we enjoyed lunch at Fogarty's outside restaurant. We then explored the Shipwreck Museum and neighboring shops before re-boarding the Wonder for our final night before arriving back in Miami. The show that night - Disney Dreams - was amazing and confirmed for us that Disney is really a MUST experience for families with young children !!!
Tom and Steve are leaving again this weekend for the Bahamas with our friends, the Fassetts from Fort Worth, this time on the Carnival Ecstasy.....soon we'll have sailed on ALL the cruise lines that sail out of South Florida. Happy Travels to y'all !!!
Kylie loved the Disney characters and all the children's activities !!!
