WOW cruise on the Oasis of the Seas

Watching divers jump from 70 meters above the waterline was just one of the awesome sights on Royal Caribbean International's   Oasis of the Seas

While we agree with some folks that say this ship is like being at the
"Mall of America",
we were also amazed at how pleasant a time we had and
we recommend you cruise on her !!

We boarded Oasis at Port Everglades on May 24th and seeing the Carnival ship Freedom next to us at about one-half the size, we were impressed right from the start !!

The Oasis and her sister ship, Allure of the Seas, are the biggest ships currently sailing.  And at a gross tonnage of over 225,000 she displaces approximately 100,000 metric tons or slightly less than that of an American Nimitz-class aircraft carrier (per Wikipedia).

There were swimming pools all over the place and Tom wanted to try the surfing option !!

But was that Steve who dared surfing on the Flowrider ??
Well, in his dreams then, haha !!
Don't you know the ride was age-restricted 18 to 35, darn it.

We first enjoyed a relaxing day at sea and dinner with friends, Ken & Fred, from Fort Lauderdale and our friends, Jim, from Fort Worth and, Jim, from Atlanta.
At the table next to us, we enjoyed cruising with our friend and travel guru, Janis, with her parents, Mary & Earl, and her niece, Justina.

Our first port was Labadee, where RCI has a private resort with (3) beaches,
and attractions including a zip line over the beach from a nearby hill top.

Janis and Justina were the only brave souls to try the zip line, but we're unsure if we captured them in our photo above !!

Getting nearly 6,000 passengers on and off the ship was amazingly simple for this ship's crew.
Disembarking at each stop was faster than on any of our earlier cruises, including the
Oceania cruise we enjoyed with only 600 passengers last month !!

Each night we enjoyed wonderful Las Vegas-style shows, whether at the outdoor Aqua Theater,
inside Studio B at the ice skating rink or in the main venue Opal Theater,
with an original RCI production of Hairspray (no photos allowed).

We enjoyed every awe-inspiring performance and it's the reason we know we'll book another cruise on RCI - probably on the Allure or the new Quantum of the Seas (launching this fall).

The 2nd port of call was Falmouth, Jamaica where we toured the island and the highlight was climbing Dunn's River Falls - followed by lunch at the beach in Montego Bay.

The final port of call was Cozumel - our 3rd visit just this winter - and a 10-hour shore excursion to Chichen Itza which was another Mayan ruin on Tom's list.

As we watched Justina back on board the Oasis, climbing the rock walls and ice skating, we couldn't help but think ahead to when our granddaughter(s) and our grandson might be with us on this cruise.

But until then, we have Janis already working on our next cruise.

Be sure and check out our blog again this fall when we depart on yet another world cruise --
this time for 220 days on Holland America's Amsterdam

Yes, you read that right !!
Later  :>))
