Caribbean post

Our last port on this World Cruise was St. Lucia in the southern Caribbean and it was a perfect final destination - wonderful scenery, beautiful sunny day, and happy people to welcome us to their island home. Tom and Steve joined with Ken and Fred and we rented a driver and a small van to whisk us around the island. We visited the only "drive-in" volcano in the Caribbean, ha! La Soufriere last erupted in 1766 and it split the nearby mountain into two peaks, now known as the Gros (large) and the Petit (smaller) Pitons. The eruption also created a large caldera or mouth of the volcano that is lush with vegetation and waterfalls that we were able to explore amid the mud baths and natural sulfur springs. We also visited a botanic garden and then a marina and beach for lunch before returning to our ship.

We have enjoyed every stop on this World Voyage and tomorrow it ends when we arrive back in Fort Lauderdale. Needless to say, we are a little sad tonight as we say goodbye to all our new friends on the Amsterdam. The good news is we are about to move into our new home in MIami and so we'll be very busy meeting new neighbors and getting settled. This is our last post on our blog tomandsteveatsea@blogspot.com for this cruise but check back later this year as we'll consider initiating more posts on this site this fall when we leave on our next cruise. Thanks for keeping up with us the past four months and say "hello" the next time you are in Florida.
